Pasadena Playhouse’s 2011-12 season will feature Angela Bassett in new drama

The Pasadena Playhouse announced a five-play 2011-12 season on Tuesday, highlighted by world premieres for “Pastoral,” a new drama by Frank Tangredi starring Angela Bassett (pictured with Laurence Fishburne) as a pastor who has secrets to hide and a crisis to face, and “South Street,” a lighthearted musical about a Philadelphia nightclub, featuring songs by Richard Addrisi, whose credits include co-writing the Association’s hit “Never My Love.”

“South Street” opens the season in September, followed in November by “Pastoral.” A second musical, not yet chosen, opens in June 2012.

Also on the boards will be revivals of Yasmina Reza’s comedy “Art” in January 2012 and “The Heiress,” a 1947 drama that Ruth and Augustus Goetz adapted from Henry James’ novel “Washington Square.”

The season’s announcement marks another step in the playhouse’s recovery from recession-compounded financial woes that led to an eight-month shutdown last year, when it entered and emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Click here for the rest of the story.
