State tax collections exceeded expectations in February by $219 million, helping lift the state’s revenues to nearly $2 billion above forecasts, according to figures from the Department of Finance released Tuesday.
“Good news but can’t take it to the bank yet! Keep it comin’!” Assemblywoman Noreen Evans (D-Santa Rosa), chair of the budget committee, wrote on Twitter.
Despite the strong recent figures, the state still faces an estimated $20-billion budget shortfall through June 2011.
