The Dodgers are ‘very’ close to acquiring pitcher Vicente Padilla, according to a source with knowledge of the situation who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he wasn’t authorized to talk about the matter.
The Dodgers can sign Padilla for a prorated share of the major-league minimum salary of $400,000.
The Texas Rangers, who released Padilla on Monday, are on the hook for the remainder of his $12-million salary and the $1.75-million buyout on his option for 2010.
