The rink at the Kings’ El Segundo practice facility had that ‘new ice’ smell Thursday as workers painted the surface in preparation for the opening of rookie camp this weekend.

The Kings and the Ducks will hold rookie camps, though the Ducks will be at Anaheim Ice for only two days before heading to San Jose for three rookie games. Practices will be open to the public.

Here’s the Kings’ rookie camp schedule (subject to change). All practices are open to the public at the Toyota Sports Center:

Sunday: On-ice practices, 10 a.m.-noon; 4:30-5:30 p.m.
Monday: On-ice practices, 10 a.m.-noon; 4:30-5:30 p.m.
Tuesday: On-ice practices, 10 a.m.-noon; 4:30-5:30 p.m.
Wednesday: Pre-game skate, 9-10:30 a.m.; game vs. Phoenix at 6 p.m (tickets required)
Thursday: Pre-game skate, 9-10 a.m.; game vs. Phoenix at 2 p.m. (tickets required)
Here’s the Ducks’ rookie camp schedule (subject to change):

Saturday: On ice, 2-5 p.m.
Sunday: On-ice, 9-11 a.m.
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday: Rookie games at Sharks Ice in San Jose
