UCLA ace Gerrit Cole had faced only two batters over the minimum through the first three innings before running into a little trouble in the fourth during the Bruins’ Pacific 10 Conference showdown with Arizona State on Friday evening at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

Cole walked Kole Calhoun on a full count leading off the fourth. Calhoun advanced to second base on a passed ball and scored on Riccio Torrez’s double to right-center field, pulling Arizona State into a 1-1 tie. Cole walked another batter in the inning but stranded runners on the corners when he got Matt Newman to fly out to left field to end the inning.
