Hillary Clinton has been away from South Carolina in recent days, looking ahead to the 20-plus Feb. 5 voting states, while her husband Bill makes the steady beat of campaign attack news against Sen. Barack Obama in the Palmetto State.
But last night in North Bergen, N.J., she brought the usual end of her standard stump speech to a new level. Typically, the New York senator tries to end her campaign remarks on a crescendo, calling on voters to help her in the primaries and then on into the general election. But an unusual moment came at the end of a long day of campaigning in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Clinton seemed to get carried away in the fervor of the suburban crowd in North Bergen, concluding her speech by shouting out, ‘Will you help me!?’ not once, not twice, not thrice.
But six times!
And the crowd eagerly answered: Yes!
Her voice slightly hoarse, she then concluded: ‘If you help me, I will restore pride and progress in America!’
She had the already enthusiastic ballroom crowd of several hundred in a near frenzy. Then, she headed back to the crucial state of South Carolina.
