Scott Heineman scored from third on a sacrifice fly by Jack Colick with one out in bottom of the ninth inning to give Encino Crespi a 2-1 victory over El Dorado in the championship game of the Diamond Sports National Classic at Cal State Fullerton.
Heineman led off the bottom of the ninth with a single. El Dorado brought in sophomore Kyle Twomey to replace Chris Rivera on the mound. Ryon Healy reached first after a throw by third baseman Jon Suda on a bunt pulled first baseman Brennan Fulkerson off the bag.
Kevin Williams forced Healy at second, putting runners on first and third with one out. Then Colick was able to send a short fly ball to center, Heineman tagged and slid at home plate. Catcher Drew Luther couldn’t hold on to the ball.
