In Larrocha’s hands, these miniatures by Spain’s leading nonagenarian composer acquire a stature that ensures a modicum of permanence on the concert platform. The early “Intimate Impressions” are non-developmental, daubed with specks of local Iberian color and partake of the obsessive simplicity of Satie. The “Songs and Dances” (1957-69) incline surprisingly to a user-friendly serialism. Larrocha polishes them all with her customary dedication. Volume II, please.
