The father of a 20-year-old man shot to death by sheriff’s deputies after a high-speed chase on Pacific Coast Highway last Aug. 27 has filed a $2-million wrongful death suit against Los Angeles County. Floyd Holmes III of Seattle was shot eight times by Deputies Ronald Gomez and Lewis McAfee. The officers said they opened fire after Holmes wrecked the stolen Jaguar he was driving because he was shouting threats at them and they thought he was reaching for a weapon. A search of the car revealed that Holmes was unarmed.
