A teen-ager was convicted Thursday of raping and bludgeoning to death two 11-year-old girls in a condominium in Rancho Palos Verdes last May.
Kevin Earl Hindmarsh, 17, who was tried as an adult, was found guilty by a Torrance Superior Court jury of two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of rape with a foreign object.
He does not face a possible death penalty because of his age.
Judge Cecil Mills scheduled sentencing for March 14.
Hindmarsh was found guilty of raping with a foreign object and then fatally beating Neda O’ Sullivan and her friend, Kristen MacKnight, on May 10, 1984.
Neda’s 15-year-old sister found the two battered girls in the living room of the O’Sullivans’ condominium when she returned home from school.
Authorities described the device used in the sexual assault as “a common household object,” but would not say if the same instrument was the murder weapon.
