Deere & Co., Moline, Ill., citing a significant drop in worldwide farm-equipment sales, reported a $28.2-million loss for the first quarter of fiscal 1985. A year earlier, Deere posted a $2-million profit. “The company’s operating results for the first quarter reflect the continuing difficulties of the U.S. agricultural economy and the farm-equipment industry,” Chairman Robert Hanson said.
Wendy’s International Inc. said its profits rose 19% in the fourth quarter, despite substantial investments to improve and add new services in its fast-food restaurants. For the full year, the Dublin, Ohio-based restaurant chain’s profits also increase, 24% over the previous year’s. Revenues rose 31% to $944.8 million in 1984 from $720.4 million in 1983.
