Girl Soccer Playoffs : Sunny Hills Takes 3-1 Win Over Valencia

Sunny Hills High School girls’ soccer team rolled to an easy, 3-1, victory over Valencia, Thursday, in the first round of the Southern Section 3-A playoffs.
The Lancers, who led 3-0 until late in the second half, got goals from left midfielder Lynley Overman and wings Joy Creel and Mary Long. Sunny Hills (9-5-5) will play Royal High of Simi Valley on Tuesday. The Lancers entered the playoffs as the No. 2 entry of the Freeway league.
Valencia (9-5-4) was the No. 2 entry of the Orange League.
In other 3-A playoff action:
Pacifica 2, Rosary 0--Left wing Chris Engles scored both goals for the Mariners as they advanced to the second round.
Troy 1, Canyon 0--Midfielder Denise Petrossi scored the game’s only goal as the Warriors (19-1-2) recorded their eighth consecutive shutout.
Villa Park 2, Redlands 1--Andrena Rust scored 15 minutes into the second half to break a 1-1 tie and help the Spartans advance.
Tustin 1, Cypress 0--Tiller right wing Michelle Baranou had the game’s only goal.
Mater Dei 1, Hart 0--Erin Breen scored the Monarch’s only goal.
Esperanza 4, Long Beach Wilson 0--Tina Pazhiano scored twice.
