Newhall Driver Held in Death of Passenger

Apassenger in an automobile that hit several parked cars on Sierra Highway south of California 126 in the Newhall area died when he was thrown from the vehicle, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said.
The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of relatives.
The driver of the vehicle, Alberto D. Villegas, 32, of Newhall, was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter, the spokesman said. Villegas, the patrol report said, was driving at a high rate of speed.
A second passenger sustained major injuries and is being treated at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.
