San Diego Prep Soccer : Hilltop Semifinal Win Ends Bishop’s Upset Bid

SAN DIEGO — The Hilltop boys soccer team scored twice in the first half to beat Bishop’s, 2-0, in a San Diego Section 2-A semifinal Tuesday at San Diego High School. Hilltop will play the winner of today’s Ramona-Chula Vista game in the 2-A title game Friday.
Bishop’s had become a sentimental favorite after beating top-seeded University City, 2-1, in the second round. According to the San Diego Section 1984-85 directory, Bishop’s has an enrollment of 330 contrasted with 1,200 at University City and 1,436 at Hilltop.
“I’m very proud of my players,” Bishop’s Coach Sam Manneh said. “We proved we can play with the best.”
In girls soccer playoffs:
Vista 1, Bonita Vista 0--Lara Dicus scored on a direct kick 15 minutes into the game to give Vista (14-5-7) an upset victory over top-seeded Bonita Vista (24-2-1) in a 3-A semifinal at Mira Mesa. Vista will play the winner of today’s Torrey Pines-Point Loma game for the 3-A title Saturday.
Mission Bay 3, University 0--The top-seeded Bucs (22-3) scored once in the first half and twice in the second to beat University (13-5) in a 2-A semifinal at San Diego High. Mission Bay will play the winner of today’s San Pasqual-Southwest game in the 2-A championship game Friday.
