VICENZA, Italy — One U.S. soldier was killed and another was wounded when they fought with knives today in their quarters in a Vicenza suburb, U.S. officials said.
Sgt. Maj. Gene Yusko, a public affairs officer at the U.S. Army base in Vicenza, said the fight broke out at the men’s quarters in Grumolo delle Abbadesse, about 10 miles from the base.
The victims, whose names were withheld pending notification of next of kin, “were apparently involved in a knife fight, resulting in the death of one and the wounding of the other,” Yusko said.
The Italian news agency ANSA, quoting police, said the fight broke out when the victim returned to his home to find his wife in the company of the other soldier.
