LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A survey of Episcopalians found that strong majorities of bishops, clergy and laity favor the ordination of women to the priesthood--a practice allowed by the church since 1976.
The poll was made by the Gallup organization for the Prayerbook Society, which seeks to continue usage of a 1928 prayer book along with a 1979 revision. The poll found the laity strongly favors freedom to worship in either prayer book, while clergy are evenly split on the issue.
