Average Wage Hikes Up 2.9%

WASHINGTON — Major collective bargaining settlements continued a trend of moderation in the first half of 1985, providing average wage increases of 2.9% a year over the life of the agreements, the Labor Department reported today. First-year wage increases averaged 2.8% for the 850,000 workers covered by agreements reached in the first half of the year.
