Two Brush Fires Burn 130 Acres
Two brush fires erupted just a few acres from each other in the Mesa Grande area of San Diego County near Lake Henshaw at about 2 p.m. Monday.
The first fire charred only five acres, but the second spread rapidly over the area’s heavy brush burning about 125 acres by sundown.
Six air tankers, 17 California Department of Forestry and U.S. Forestry Service engines, two bulldozers and six hand crews battled the brush fires which were fanned by breezes from nearby Lake Henshaw.
No structures were threatened, and no injuries were reported.
Forestry officials expect to have the fire contained by 6 this morning and expect to extinguish the fire by 6 tonight.
