Mills College in Oakland said it has received an $8-million gift from an an alumna, the largest single gift in its 133-year history. The donor, the late Carroll Donner, granddaughter of philanthropist William H. Donner, graduated in 1951 and was a resident of Sutton Place, N.Y., when she died in 1984. Her gift increased the school’s endowment to $48 million.
