I trust Jim Murray was using the word vain as one of the definitions described in Webster’s dictionary in his reference to Cosell. Vain meaning empty, worthless, ineffectual, foolish, lacking in sense, inflated, false and fruitless. But fruitless and ineffectual he was not. Just by being there, he was able to turn off the sound of Monday Night Football on TVs all over the U.S.--with apology to two gifted announcers, Don Meredith and Frank Gifford.
Puuuuullleaase keep him off baseball.
