The B&B; Experience
According to Kenneth Wise (Sept. 15), no self-respecting “travelers” (as opposed to “tourists”) would care where they ate or spent the night, since “exploring” was the main purpose of their journeys. Why not experience rather then merely explore an unfamiliar part of the world by spending a night, or longer, in the home of a resident? Who would be better equipped to give a stranger an authentic taste of local customs, history, food, life styles and attitudes, and suggest points of interest not usually found in tour books, and do so in a most personal way?
The majority of B&Bs; here and abroad are private homes, where hosts share a deep dedication to the B&B; concept that the best way to turn strangers into friends is to invite them to be guests in your home.
