Arafat Stirs Anti-U.S. Protest

KHARTOUM, Sudan — About 1,000 Sudanese demonstrators burned an American flag and tried to march on the U.S. Embassy today after a speech here by Palestinian Liberation Organization leader Yasser Arafat, police and witnesses said.
Police used tear gas to disperse the crowd, which was protesting the U.S. interception of the jetliner carrying the Achille Lauro hijackers out of Egypt last week.
