Fullerton : Parent Group Holds Meeting on Drug Abuse

A parent group striving to “create a drug-free youth” will hold its first Parent Education Series on Wednesday night at Parks Junior High School.
“Drug & Alcohol Use Among Our Youth--What Fullerton Is Doing About It” will be the topic of the series, sponsored by the Communities Against Substance Abuse.
The meeting at the junior high school is an attempt to reach younger teen-agers.
The group plans to expand into elementary schools because children are experimenting with drugs and alcohol at an earlier age, said Carol Edmonston, the group’s liaison with Fullerton’s elementary and secondary schools.
Last year, the 3-year-old parent group concentrated primarily on high schools.
“You cannot wait until children are in high school. (By then) the problem is already existing,” Edmonston said Monday.
The meeting, which is open to the public and begins at 7 p.m., will include a film titled “Sons & Daughters--Drugs & Booze” and a lecture on “Why Parents Need to Become Involved.”
