A House subcommittee, saying voluntary requests have been refused, voted to subpoena scientific reviews submitted to the Food and Drug Administration on the potential cancer-causing effect of six food and drug dyes now in common use. The subpoena was addressed to outgoing Health and Human Services Secretary Margaret M. Heckler. Rep. Ted Weiss (D-N.Y.), subcommittee chairman, said the FDA has refused requests for the scientific reviews since early September.
