Community College Basketball : Fullerton, Grossmont Reach Tournament Semifinals

Rocco Myers scored 16 points and Bill Buda added 14 Wednesday night to lead Fullerton College to a 98-93 victory over San Bernardino in the first round of the Fullerton College Invitational Tournament at the Hornets’ gym.
In another first-round game, Rob Ryttgers scored 12 points to lead Grossmont College to a 74-67 victory over Cerritos.
Fullerton and Grossmont advanced to the semifinals. Santa Barbara will play Southwestern, and Long Beach City will play West Los Angeles in other first-round games tonight.
In Fullerton College Invitational Tournament women’s games:
Fullerton 62, Pasadena City 46--Sharon Lyon scored 23 points and Julie Djork added 11 points to lead the Hornets to a first-round victory over the Lancers.
Golden West 98, San Diego Mesa, 65--The Rustlers defeated the Olympians to advance to tonight’s semifinals.
Cerritos 53, Taft 47--Shelly Bowclitt scored 20 points, as the Falcons defeated the Cougars to advance to the semifinals.
Long Beach City 75, Moorpark 52--The Vikings won easily to advance to the semifinals.
In other women’s action:
Connie Waikle, Saddleback College’s 6-foot 9-inch center, scored 30 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the Gauchos to a 93-32 victory over Southwestern in a nonconference game at Saddleback.
Cheryl Eiland added 17 points and 13 rebounds, while Dina Graham scored 16 points for the Gauchos (2-0).
