5 Die in 30-Minute Rampage

SALEM, Va. — Five people died in a 30-minute rampage today when two men fleeing police gunned down a state trooper, killed a man and his wife and led officers on a high-speed chase in a hijacked van before committing double suicide.

The two suspects, one of whom was wanted for murder in Pennsylvania, shot the trooper about 2:20 a.m., then killed a Salem man in his home, abducted his wife and killed her while fleeing police in the van, police said. When the pair overturned the van on Interstate 81, they turned their guns on themselves, police said.
