Sanford to Run for Senate

RALEIGH, N.C. — Former Gov. Terry Sanford said that he will seek the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate seat now held by John P. East, a Republican who is not seeking reelection because of poor health. Sanford, 68, made the announcement Saturday.
