Fire Causes $30,000 Damage: A kitchen steamer left on overnight in a Balboa restaurant started a fire early Saturday that caused an estimated $30,000 in damage, the Newport Beach Fire Department reported. A force of 27 firefighters quickly controlled the blaze at Newport Landing shortly after 6 a.m., but it took three hours to mop up afterwards, a Fire Department spokeswoman said. No one was injured.
