Malamud’s Death Laid to Heart Attack

The death of author Bernard Malamud was attributed Wednesday to a heart attack. In a statement issued in New York City, his publishing house, Farrar, Straus & Giroux, said the novelist was stricken Tuesday at his Manhattan home. The author of “The Fixer,” “The Magic Barrel” and “The Natural” was 71.
