St. Luke Hospital of Pasadena has officially become St. Luke Medical Center with completion of its sale last week to Summit Health Ltd. Negotiations for the sale of the 167-bed facility, formerly owned by the Catholic order of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange, to the for-profit company was announced in October and the contract was signed in December.
Summit paid $13.5 million for the 52-year-old hospital and has promised to spend at least $4 million on capital improvements. The major physical change will involve construction of an additional building that will be connected to the existing facility. The new building, which is expected to be completed in two years, will include new operating rooms and a maternity department.
