Meatpackers on strike against Geo. A. Hormel & Co.’s flagship plant in Austin, Minn., said that their parent union apparently already has decided to take over the maverick local and would not allow it to present its case at a trusteeship hearing in Minneapolis. “I think they already have the decision in mind,” said Local P-9 President Jim Guyette. The closed hearing is limited to the narrow issue of whether Local P-9 disregarded the international union’s orders to end an eight-month strike.
