Kadafi No Longer Has Sole Control, British Paper Says

LONDON — Col. Moammar Kadafi is no longer in sole charge of Libya but is a member of a five-man junta of military officers governing the country after last week’s U.S. air raids, the London Times reported today.
The report by Robert Fisk from Tripoli said, “Col. Kadafi now performs the tasks of a figurehead rather than the sole political and military leader.”
Fisk said the four other members of the junta are Kadafi’s deputy, Maj. Abdel-Salam Jalloud, Deputy Chief of Staff Hweldi Hamedi, army Commander-in-Chief Abu Boke and Inspector General Mustafa Karroubi.
Jalloud, and not Kadafi, gave the first official high-level news conference after the U.S. bombing raid.
Kadafi’s profile has been unusually low. With nearly 200 foreign journalists in Tripoli, he has not held a news conference since the raid. His wife appeared at one, a highly unusual move in the Arab world.
