2 Ventura Incumbent Supervisors Taking Nothing for Granted

Voters in two of Ventura County’s five supervisory districts will vote on June 3 to select members of the Board of Supervisors, the body in charge of the county’s $403-million annual budget.
The county’s 5,700-person work force provides an array of primary services to 600,200 residents, including law enforcement, fire protection, health and welfare programs and road repairs.
In the hotly contested 2nd District race, three-term incumbent Edwin A. Jones faces four rivals seeking his $32,835-a-year job as supervisor. The district stretches from Thousand Oaks to the coast south of Port Hueneme, with portions of Camarillo and Oxnard in between.
In the 4th District, which includes Simi Valley, Moorpark, the Santa Rosa Valley and Somis, incumbent James Dougherty is rated by observers as a shoo-in against a candidate making a first run for office.
If any candidate wins a majority vote, the race ends there. Otherwise, voters return in November to choose between the top two vote-getters.
