A middle-aged man was killed late Wednesday by a gunman after he and a woman left a North Hollywood restaurant, police said.
Apparently a robbery, the shooting occurred behind the Mikado Restaurant at 12600 Riverside Drive about 11:30 p.m., Police Sgt. Howard Landgren said.
The victim was taken to Medical Center of North Hollywood, where he died a short time later. Authorities were withholding his name until relatives were notified.
The couple had just left the restaurant and were talking in their car when the man opened the passenger-side door where the victim was seated, Landgren said. When the victim tried to shut the door, he was shot in the upper body, Landgren said. The gunman fled in a car.
No property was taken, he said.
