Gov. George Deukmejian appointed Escondido attorney David W. Ryan to the North County branch of the San Diego Municipal Court in Vista.
Ryan, 44, replaces Judge Franklin J. Mitchell, recently promoted to the Superior Court bench.
Ryan, who specializes in real estate law and estate planning, has been in private practice in the Escondido area since 1980.
Municipal Court judges earn $70,436 annually.
