San Diego Section Tennis : Teams From Palomar League Sweep Berths for Today’s Semifinal Round

SAN DIEGO — It will be an all-Palomar League semifinals today after four league teams won quarterfinal matches at Wednesday’s San Diego Section tennis playoffs.
Torrey Pines, Poway, Mt. Carmel and Vista all advanced.
Defending champion Torrey Pines’ No. 1 player, Tim Bubnack, rallied from a 7-5 loss in the first game to win the next two, 6-4, 6-2, and defeat Point Loma’s Kelly Mountain. Torrey Pines beat Point Loma, 7-0.
In the top doubles match, Torrey Pines’ Jeff Babickian and Mark Ellison beat Jim Randerson and Dick Eastley, 6-4, 6-1. Torrey Pines will play Mount Carmel in the semifinal today at 3 p.m. at Rancho Santa Fe Country Club.
In other quarterfinal matches:
Poway 7, Patrick Henry 0--Chris Toomey, Poway’s No. 1 player, swept Patrick Henry’s Amir Doran, 6-0, 6-0, to lead Poway in the quarterfinals. In doubles, Poway’s Gordon Shockley and David Welborn defeated Henry’s Jeff Greene and David Levine, 6-4, 6-3. Poway (16-5) will play Vista today in the semifinal.
Mount Carmel 6, Valhalla 1--Mount Carmel’s top player, Tom Phanco, beat Valhalla’s Kevin Klubunde, 6-1, 6-4, to help the Sundevils advance to today’s semifinals.
Vista 6, Monte Vista 1--The Panthers eliminated the Grossmont League’s Monarchs.
