EL DeBARGE, CARLISLE, LEVEL 42 AT FREE BEACH SCENE IN SAN PEDRO

El DeBarge, Belinda Carlisle, Level 42 and Missing Persons are among the nearly four dozen pop acts who’ll perform during the free Los Angeles city-sponsored Beach Scene Festival on Saturday and Sunday at Cabrillo Beach in San Pedro.

Sylvia Cunliffe, general manager of the Los Angeles City department of general services, came up with the concept as part of the “cultural awareness” program that includes the 9-year-old Los Angeles Street Scene. That downtown music and crafts festival now attracts more than 1 million people each September. The Beach Scene, which will also feature stands that serve ethnic food and sell arts and crafts, is designed to accommodate up to 100,000 a day.

Milton Petty, director of talent acquisition for Street Scene and Beach Scene, said radio station KIIS-FM, which is co-sponsoring the event, cooperated in securing several of the bands and corporate sponsors, who have contributed an estimated $120,000.
