Pro football will muscle its way into the living rooms of gridiron fans this weekend as the National Football League begins its preseason action both here and abroad.
First up is the AFC-NFC Hall of Fame Game from Canton, Ohio. The 16th annual contest will pit the American Conference champion New England Patriots against the St. Louis Cardinals today at 11:30 a.m. (7)(3)(10)(42). ABC’s new “Monday Night Football” broadcast team of Al Michaels and Frank Gifford will report.
In a heralded first for the NFL, two of its teams will be playing a televised game in London. Wembley Stadium is the site of Sunday’s match between Tom Landry’s Dallas Cowboys and Mike Ditka’s Super Bowl champion Chicago Bears at 10 a.m. (4)(36)(39). Dick Enberg and Merlin Olsen will do the play-by-play.
As for the boys of summer, the California Angels and Seattle Mariners will meet tonight at 7 and again Sunday at 1:30 p.m. on Channel 5.
