The new superintendent of the San Marcos Unified School District is Cloyde McKinley (Mac) Bernd, 42, currently curriculum and instruction director for the Glendale Union High School District in suburban Phoenix.
Bernd will start work Aug. 18 at an annual salary of $65,000. He succeeds William Streshley, who resigned to become superintendent of the Ramon Valley Unified School District near Oakland.
Bernd was not one of the five finalists recommended by a district consultant, but nonetheless impressed the school board with his work in curriculum, trustees said Thursday night in announcing their selection.
