TRASHING THE MOVIES

Was that the April 1st edition?
Benson identified three of the film masterpieces of the 1980s: (“A Sunday in the Country,” “Once Upon a Time in America,” “Ran”), but the rest of the list is a bewildering admixture of the good, the bad and the overrated.
Will the missing masterpieces advance and be recognized? “Coup de Torchon,” “1984,” “Fitzcarraldo” (the obvious ones), and “Erendira,” “Brazil,” “Blade Runner” (philosophically inaccessible to the list-maker?) should all receive mention.
