Washington State quarterback Ed Blount and free safety Kevin Thomasson were released from the Whitman County Jail in Colfax, Wash., where they were serving 60-day sentences for felony theft.
Blount and Thomasson were freed 20 days early for good behavior, Sheriff Steve Tomson said.
Cougar football drills opened Thursday, but Tomson said the players’ release did not coincide with team operations.
“It’s totally coincidental that we released them . . . before workouts start,” Tomson said.
Blount and Thomasson had been sentenced to jail terms, 80 hours of community service and two years of probation in July after they pleaded guilty to felony second-degree theft for stealing a stereo from a WSU fraternity last October.
