Former Laker LeRoy Ellis was named an assistant basketball coach at USC, Coach George Raveling said. Ellis, 46, spent 14 years in the National Basketball Assn., playing for the Lakers, Baltimore Bullets, Portland Trail Blazers and Philadelphia 76ers. The 6-11 center was Wilt Chamberlain’s backup on the 1972 champion Lakers.
