Texas Ranger outfielder Gary Ward has left the team for the fourth time this season because of family problems.
“It’s a personal concern that has to be dealt with immediately,” Manager Bobby Valentine said of Ward’s departure Saturday from Comiskey Park in Chicago.
Ward already has missed nearly 20 games this season because of family problems. He missed one game in April when his daughter underwent surgery. His father’s death in June caused Ward to miss seven games. In July, his wife gave birth to a stillborn child, forcing Ward to miss 10 games.
Valentine said Ward may rejoin the team today.
