The stepdaughter of a San Fernando Valley dance instructor found stabbed to death in his garage early Tuesday was arrested along with a companion on suspicion of murder, police said.
Police Lt. Ron LaRue said the stepdaughter, Mary Ann Hayden, 45, and Robert Holmes, 26, both of North Hollywood, were being held in lieu of $250,000 bail each in separate San Fernando Valley jails.
They are suspected of slaying Edward Gay, 72, who was stabbed several times in the chest inside the garage of his home in the 12700 block of Tiara Street in North Hollywood.
Hayden, who was staying with Gay, reported the slaying to police early Tuesday, LaRue said.
LaRue declined to say what investigators believe was the motive for the slaying.
