Two prisoners who overpowered a jailer and escaped from the McDonald County Jail in Pineville, Mo., last week were recaptured in Sacramento, police said. Edmond Allen Jr., 58, and Robert Hammon, 20, were held in the Sacramento County Jail awaiting extradition to Missouri. A police spokesman said details of the arrest were sketchy but that officers often recapture fugitives from other states after tracing them through relatives and friends. The two escaped by sawing through three bars with a hacksaw blade, overpowering a jailer and fleeing in the jailer’s personal car. The jailer was unhurt. Allen is a former Granby, Mo., police officer who at the time of his escape was being held pending sentencing on bank robbery charges. Hammon was serving a county burglary sentence.
