The National Weather Service Employees Organization sought to block sale of the weather satellite system’s ground control operation to a private contractor. A lawsuit filed in Washington asked the U.S. District Court for an injunction against the change, on the grounds that it would diminish the quality of service to forecasters and cause pay cuts and loss of jobs. The government has solicited bids for operation of the Wallops Island, Va., data-relay facility.
