Violent rainstorms and floods over the last week have killed at least 11 people and left about 1,500 homeless in southeastern Brazil, the civil defense agency reported. Rivers in the border region between Minas Gerais and Sao Paulo states burst their banks, and three towns were flooded, including Lavrinhas, in Sao Paulo, where the 11 deaths were reported.
