Ann McLaughlin Out of Run for Speakes’ Post

WASHINGTON — Ann Dore McLaughlin said today she is resigning her post as undersecretary of the Interior as of March 1 to return to private life and take a “semi-sabbatical.”
The move apparently takes her out of consideration as successor to outgoing White House spokesman Larry Speakes. McLaughlin, 45, said she had discussions about the post “but, really, I had my head set in this direction.” She is the wife of conservative TV news analyst John McLaughlin.
