Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney dismissed Transport Minister Andre Bissonnette after inquiries into a multimillion-dollar land transaction that was linked to a government project. Mulroney issued a statement saying he asked for Bissonnette’s resignation after checking into the deal, in which vacant land in Bissonnette’s election district that was sought for a new air defense defense plant had tripled in value three months before the federal government awarded a $600 million contract for the project. There was no immediate reaction from Bissonnette.
