VANDENBERG AIR FORCE BASE — The Air Force successfully launched an unarmed MX missile from a modified Minuteman 3 silo Saturday to a target 4,100 miles away in the Pacific, officials said.
It was the 17th in a series of 20 test flights of the intercontinental ballistic missile, dubbed the “Peacekeeper” by the Reagan Administration.
The missile was launched at 7:15 a.m. and flew to the Army’s missile test range in the Pacific, a Pentagon statement said. The missile carried six unarmed Mark 21 warheads.
